Be Still My Beating Heart

I really do love real estate and I've been doing it for over 14 years now. Every now and then, I come across a house that really makes my heart sing. Today, its this house: 400 Cordell, Houston, TX 77009.

This gorgeous home, which sits on a 5000 square ft. lot with minimum lot size deed restrictions, is a great buy at $949k. At almost 3,000 sq. ft. it offers 3 spacious bedrooms and 3.5 baths. The 2 car garage features high ceilings perfect for a lift.

Originally built as a bungalow in 1911, this spacious dwelling has been tastefully and exquisitely updated. Recent upgrades and additions reflect the taste of modern times married with architectural traits that reflect the original era when the property was built.

A perfect combination of old and new is beautifully demonstrated in the kitchen where ultra-modern trending finishes are contrasted with an exposed brick wall. Throughout the house are modern, clean white lines, juxtaposed with elaborate dental molding, original baseboards and pavers; and scattered throughout some dark stained wood - just enough to add drama without overpowering. Instead of pocket doors one finds quality barn doors. Even some of the chandeliers are indicative of the time the bungalow was built.

But for me, the piece de resistance is the owner's suite. To get there, one ascends a gorgeous staircase salvaged from a Spanish mission in California. At the top of the stairs is the entrance to the master suite. The bedroom itself is quite simple, one wall lined with windows, but the segue to the master bath and closet is truly sublime. The architect made great use of the house's existing roof line and combined it with soft lighting and canned lighting that summons you to the master bath and closet.

The master closet includes built-in shelves and drawers along with a large open space perfect as a dressing room.

With just enough details to make it interesting but not too many to overwhelm, this home is perfect for someone seeking a warm and enveloping space. This is definitely not your grandparent's home. But you'll oftentimes find yourself thinking of them and appreciating their era as you live out your daily life in this stunning Heights home.
